We provide the highest quality in comprehensive vision examinations, frame and lens selections, and contact lens fittings. The staff of A NEW VISION is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to all our patients. Our goal is to educate and advise while helping to meet individual vision needs.
A NEW VISION is conveniently located at the intersection of Murray and Allen Boulevards in Beaverton. Our office is one of the very few in the Portland area that provides developmental vision exams and vision therapy, a little-known yet growing field of optometry. We welcome children of all ages, both for general eye care and vision therapy. We offer a full service optical dispensary with a wide variety of frames from which to choose. We offer the most current contact lens types available, including bifocal contacts and lenses that correct for astigmatism and other hard-to-fit conditions. Our doctors are on most insurance panels in the Portland area, and our staff is well equipped and experienced to assist you with any insurance related questions.
Why Choose an Optometrist over an Ophthalmologist?
Optometric Physicians (OD) are trained vision specialists who are focused on vision performance. Optometrists excel at examining and treating the functional performance of your eyes and how your brain interprets what it sees (i.e., visual perception). Ophthalmologists, as MD's, focus on surgery and treatment of ocular disease. They can perform refraction, which determines the lens prescription you may need. They are typically not, however, trained in vision performance.
Your eye health is of upmost importance to us in addition to your performance. A thorough eye exam is the first line of defense for identifying many diseases at an early stage, when symptoms are minor or not yet present (read more here). As your primary family eye specialist, Optometrists are trained to diagnose ocular diseases and infections, including glaucoma, retinal detachment, and cataracts. Optometrists in the state of Oregon are licensed to prescribe medications for infections such as conjunctivitis ("pink eye"), which eliminates the need for an additional MD referral, examination and prescription for routine ailments. We work closely with many Ophthalmologists to whom we regularly refer patients when surgical intervention or treatment of more aggressive infections is needed. Our doctors also co-manage cataract and laser refractive surgeries with Ophthalmologists.
